Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
